SQL Server 2012 aka Denali is the latest version of SQL server from Microsoft, which has all the features inherited from older versions along with some great enhancements and brand new features such as:
Support to cloud environment and realization of cloud BI. Enhancements to storage and speed of SQL server performance with ‘verti paq’ technology. Significant improvements on database engine with search performance and table partitioning. ‘Data Quality Services’ to maintain the data quality within the organization, which can either work in standalone mode or integrated with SSIS to get the quality data into the data warehouse. ‘Business Intelligence Semantic Model’ (BISM) with all the OLAP features for relational data useful for providing required analytics. SSRS has been enhanced with ‘end user alerting’ and more tight integration with SharePoint 2010.
Self-service BI has been promoted in SQL server 2012 under the project ‘Crescent’. This focuses on the business users who want to easily create their own crescent reports with ease of use in analysis. Advanced things like quick links between different report items and one click drill downs etc. are possible with Crescent without writing single line of code. Silverlight technology used in crescent reports makes them look rich and the SSRS platform supports tight integration with SQL sources and SharePoint 2010.”
